Money — two days on cultural support for free practitioners

Report from the conference Money — two days on cultural support for free practitioners

On November 23-24, the digital conference Money — two days on cultural support for independent practitioners was held. A host of cultural organisations, donors, foundations and initiatives were on display during the regions' two-day digital conference on money, moderated by Ann Ighe & Daniel Terres. The program was aimed at independent cultural practitioners, and is organized by the VG region and the Värmland region.

We got, among other things, learn more about how the various applications and grants work for various institutions and initiatives — such as the Swedish Postal Code Foundation, the Artists' Committee, the Cultural Council, Nordic Culture Contact, the All-Männa Arvsfonden, the VG region and the City of Gothenburg.

This was a bit of a gold mine for those looking for different types of support and want to get a handle on the infrastructure around the different support systems and bodies for scholarships, grants and financial support — what you can apply for at state or regional level, what you should think about when applying, how the different forms of support are divided and much more.

We also got to listen to various inspiring organizations, organizers and networks who shared their tips and how they themselves navigate the culture and support landscape. The Not Quite Art Center and the Clandestino Festival were some of these.

MCV has made a summary of the briefings relevant to music support applicants, email us at mcv@mcv.se if you want access to the material!

Sustain Webinar November 28:

Communication – meet Michael Gottfried, ACT

Time for the Sustain Webinar! On Monday, November 28, we will once again meet Michel Gottfried, communications manager at major European jazz company ACT, who will turn his attention to the art of storytelling and the modern media landscape.

The webinar is held in English and moderated by Kim Vestin at Musikcentrum Öst:

For almost 20 years, Michael Gottfried works in the fields of communication, media relations, text and concept, digital marketing and A&R – with a strong focus on jazz and more, but also with regular excursions into crossovers, indie, classical music and "world music".

Since 2009 he has been doing this exclusively for the label ACT, one of the world's leading indies in contemporary, cross-genre music with jazz DNA. Michael Gottfried has worked on about 500 albums for ACT so far, among others with greats like Nils Landgren, Michael Wollny and Esbjörn Svensson.

His talk will concern the following:
- How do you tell good stories in the online and offline world and to the media, concert promoters, institutions and (potential) listeners?
– What does the current media and communications landscape for jazz and more actually look like?
