Gothenburg's Alternative Orchestra - The sleeping orchestra 

An interactive and creative musical performance with a focus on the students' creation

A sleeping orchestra and a confused conductor need help to start the music, the sheet music is scattered and the conductor tells us that a strange storm has just passed. He himself has suffered some kind of amnesia and comes up with several strange methods to make the orchestra sound which he tests together with the students. The orchestra GAO is a fantastic mix of musicians and instruments under the direction of Jorge Alcaide where diversity and innovation are the basis of the sound and the methods used in the creation.

The sleeping orchestra is a development from our previous school performance Sound de Göteborg with a more theatrical feel but which is equally focused on the musical and interactive creation.

Sound de Göteborg premiered at the end of April 2016 at the Röhsska muséet in Gothenburg and presented this performance over three days for a total of 6. middle school classes from different parts of Gothenburg. The result was overwhelmingly positive. Both teachers and students showed incredible enthusiasm and joy after participating. We managed to capture the students' interest and get them involved in the creative work in a way that felt genuine and exciting for everyone. For the musicians in GAO, this was the first step in the school project and it was also a fantastically inspiring experience. We have established the value of the meeting between artists and the younger generation and therefore want to spread this to schools in Gothenburg and the surrounding area. Another variant is also that we come to a nearby cultural center and that the school classes can get there.

Time: 60 min (we need about 60 minutes of preparation time)

Number of participants: The orchestra that comes out to the schools will be a maximum of 20 musicians. The number of students we wish to work with per occasion is approx. 20-25, i.e. by class or equivalent.

Room: Spacious room that can be darkened, where approx. 55 people can have room to move around and an hour's preparation time.
