Mwendo Dawa 50 years
Nefertiti on Valand Vasagatan 41, Gothenburg, Västra Götaland County, SwedenThe first trio CD Silent Voice, LJRecords came out in 2018 and is partly a tribute to one of the leaders of MWENDO DAWA, the tenor saxophonist and composer OVE JOHANSSON, who passed away in December 2015. On April 11, a new release was released with the Mwendo Dawa trio, Melodic Hope, which celebrates the group's start in 1975, i.e. celebrating 50 years and it has been a long journey with many musicians involved.
The music has always sought new paths in the musical world of Jazz - freeform - fusion - avant garde - electroacoustic music. Improvised music where live electronics are seamlessly integrated with acoustic instruments. Provocative? Innovative? Creative? - The music is definitely not lukewarm and wants to give the listener a challenge - what was once the soul of jazz. Music that requires concentrated listening, but also music with a large portion of humor and exciting whimsy. Composed themes are woven together with improvised sections.
