Jazz has always been a melting pot of different influences around the world. In Sweden, folk music was picked up early on from greats such as Georg Riedel, Jan Johansson, Bengt Hallberg and Bengt-Arne Wallin. The most famous example is probably the record "Jazz på Svenska" with Visa from Utanmyra and other earrings.

…and all along the origin of the spiritual has been present. Big band giant Duke Ellington created "Sacred Concerts" for choir and big band and our Swedish Nils Lindberg (friend of Duke) arranged powerful works for that setting.

In this very exciting meeting between two of the city's leading musicians - the Cathedral's "Gustavi Ungdomskor" and the Gothenburg Jazz Orchestra, we explore and enjoy this folk and divine mix of music with swing, melancholy, reflection, joy.

We are visited by the singer Vivian Buczek and the drummer Nicci Wallin – son of Bengt-Arne Wallin who leaves his personal mark in this journey in music.

GUSTAVI YOUTH CHOIR - our city's award-winning choir led by Petter Ekberg attracts attention with its often packed concerts in the Cathedral and at international competitions and exchanges. A great curiosity and a keen sense of musical expression create fantastic performances for audiences at home and far away.

GÖTEBORG JAZZ ORCHESTRA is one of the most exciting bands in Swedish jazz right now. The big band filled, in a concert series, the new fine stage "Draken" in Gothenburg during the autumn and has had a meteoric career and in a short time established itself at the highest level. In their love for music and jazz, they eagerly seek new expressions, attract collaborations with the best nationally and internationally, and happily flirt across genre boundaries and with new formats.

VIVIAN BUCZEK There is no doubt that Vivian Buczek is one of our foremost jazz singers with an outstanding breadth and feeling for the jazz idiom. She has made a series of appearances with both international and Swedish greats. "..,,Vivian will be foremost among our jazz singers for a long time to come. She has everything; feeling, timing, rhythmicity, phrasing, articulation and a wonderful humor with a twinkle in the eye”.

NICCI WALLIN – frequently hired drummer with, among others, Jerry Williams, Lisa Nilsson, Tomas Ledin and others. As the son of the legendary Bengt-Arne Wallin, he grew up in a home with visits from the world's greatest in jazz at the kitchen table, which created a very special and personal relationship with jazz and the history of jazz - from the inside. Recently he participated in a tribute concert to his father with the Radiojazz group and Nils Landgren at Berwaldhallen and in P2.

JENS MÖLLER is a well-known radio voice - both as a correspondent and reporter but also as a presenter for the music programs P2 on Hemväg and Mitt i Musiken. "My great passion is music. Think how much beautiful, fun and fascinating music there is to discover!”
