When Arabic music meets Swedish poetry, a joint is created now.
The Gothenburg-based group Mor plays newly written oriental music with lyrics in Swedish. Also has a genuine Arabic repertoire. They build a suggestive landscape with oriental scales and rhythms, and embrace dramatic contemporary poems in an Arabic song style. Mother's music is suggestive and meditative, but sometimes also captivatingly rhythmic. The music is written by singer Anna Ottertun and oud player Filip Bagewitz, Gothenburg.
In 1996–2012, Anna Ottertun sang Arabic songs from several different countries in the band Sumer, which was led by the Iraqi singer and oud player Talal Ismail (Gothenburg). From Talal she learned both the songs, the language sounds and the Arabic singing style
