Celtic Duo

Celtic Duo

Music taken from the rich Celtic tradition of Ireland, Scotland and Wales; fiery jigs, reels, lyrically melancholic melodies and songs.

The repertoire also includes early music from Scotland and Ireland - mainly from the 1600th century onwards - performed in folk music. In addition to "pure" traditional folk music, the Celtic Duo also highlights music by composers such as Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738), whose posterity music is usually categorized as folk music but which was in fact influenced by both their own contemporary classical music and older Celtic musical tradition. The Celtic Duo's arrangements are playful and imaginative with a strong emphasis on improvisation, but always with great respect for the music's roots and origins.

The members Emil Pernblad and Jonas Liljeström have been active in Gothenburg's music life for almost thirty years. Both are musical multitaskers with a large number of different styles and traditions in their repertoires, and with the Celtic Duo they return to the music that first brought them together in the early 90's.

Jonas Liljeström: violin, vocals
Emil Pernblad: guitar, Irish bouzouki

“The Celtic duo's repertoire is taken from the rich Celtic folk music tradition, and consists of everything from fiery jigs and reels to melancholic songs. The duo's background in, among other things, world music and flamenco contributes to a dynamic and personal performance. ”.
