Gothenburg Alternative Orchestra

Gothenburg Alternative Orchestra

GAO - The Sleeping Orchestra, an interactive and creative musical performance focusing on students' creativity.

GAO is an orchestra project based in Gothenburg that provides concerts, actions in the public space and or workshops, as well as cross-border collaborations. GAO consists of 20-40 musicians who have explored and developed the orchestral form from a contemporary perspective where different types of instruments and genres meet. They take advantage of the musical diversity that already exists in society and transcend different genres and traditions through different knowledge and backgrounds of the musician. Initiator and orchestra leader Jorge Alcaide from, among others, Quartango and Lecheburre.

Since 2013, GAO has performed on established stages, festivals, inaugurations and schools and, among other things, has collaborated with the Halland region and the Municipality of Gothenburg.
By exploring new constellations and working methods, GAO wants to be an alternative orchestra that is aimed at both adults and children and young people. GAO has many different programs for both adults and children / young people. They like to work conceptually and can design and adapt a project in collaboration with you.

Here you can find detailed information about GAO's projects with schools / children / young people:

GAO's school project Sound de Göteborg which is an interactive program adapted for schools but which can also be presented in the public space or as an installation in art galleries or cultural centers

GAO Concert what is an alternative orchestra? With its own composed music and concept, GAO is one of the answers, with cultural diversity as bass, improvisation, tracks, soloists and a new symphonic sound, GAO has produced a singularity that is both liberating and stimulating. Our concerts show all our spectra!

Mini GAO as above but in smaller format, because the large orchestra is sometimes difficult to coordinate, or if the venue is too small, there is always an opportunity to do both concerts and workshops with a smaller group, ranging from 8-15 musicians.

GAOs all bands Within GAO, there are both old and new constellations that have emerged, about 10 different programs with everything from soloists to larger ensembles.
