The invisible wall

A gripping and entertaining storytelling and music performance based on the book The Invisible Wall.
The Invisible Wall is a wonderfully gripping, rich and bustling depiction of a Jewish family in England during the time around the First World War. It was a sensational debut by the then 96-year-old Harry Bernstein, who with the book brings to life a bygone time and environment, to which he has returned in his mind throughout his adult life. He writes with warmth and without sentimentality about severe poverty, restricted religiosity and love.
The performance consists of picturesque readings from central parts of the novel, interspersed with narration of both the book and a personal meeting with the elderly author Harry Bernstein in New York. This in a setting of specially composed, klezmer-inspired music.
