Anna Lundqvist & Jonas André
Music that moves seamlessly between European jazz, pop and original compositions
There’s a special kind of magic that appears when singer Anna Lundqvist and pianist Jonas André play together – an interplay of a near telepathic nature. After an interim of almost 20 years, they reunited in 2019 to go into the studio to record Reunion, their debut album which was released in the spring of 2020 on the Swedish jazz label Prophone.
Their music moves seamlessly between jazz and pop – their original compositions mixed with songs by, for instance, Joni Mitchell, Kenny Wheeler, Norma Winstone, Anders von Hofsten, and Jay-Jay Johansson. Melancholic harmony and a certain amount of drama come together in a profound and honest repertoire with lyrics that tell stories about life, passion, and will.
Anna Lundqvist, vocals, is an acclaimed singer and composer. She attended the jazz programme at Skurup’s folk high school and has been active as a musician for over 20 years. During that time, she has released five critically acclaimed records and a book of sheet music with her original compositions. Her latest album MEWE (Anna Lundqvist Quintet, 2018) was nominated for the Manifesto Gala in the category "Jazz of the Year" and was praised in the foreign press and media. For a few years now, she has also been working as a musician and guest lecturer in Lisbon, a city she calls her second home.
Jonas André, piano, is a musician and cultural jack-of-all-trades. He attended the jazz programme at Skurps’s folk high school and holds a BA from Malmö Academy of Music. For the past 25 years, he has been involved in a number of different musical projects; as a musician, producer, and graphic designer. He also produced a number of records during his time at the Swedish label Caprice Records, and is behind discoveries such as Edda Magnason and the much appreciated record series Improvisational (piano improvisations with Jacob Karlzon and Mats Öberg, among others). He is also active as an art director and photographer.
